Blue Eyed Soul

So today I'm giving you a 2-In-1 with two extremely talented, underrated singers. They are Toby Lightman and Nikka Costa. If you've never heard of either of them, it's your loss. Lucky for you I'm here.

Nikka Costa, is an American singer whose music combines elements of funk, soul, and blues, among other genres. Frank Sinatra, a close friend of her father's, was her godfather. Although she was relatively well known to the rest of the world, audiences in the United States had not yet been exposed to her until her song "Like A Feather" was featured in a Tommy Hilfiger television advertising campaign. That exposure coupled with the track's music video quickly helped launch her crossover into the United States music market. The album Everybody Got Their Something managed to garner another radio hit with the title track. For your listening pleasure, here's "Like A Feather" and "Push & Pull".

Toby Lightman is a critically-acclaimed American singer/songwriter. Her first album, Little Things, was released in 2004 on Lava/Atlantic, featuring the hit single Devils and Angels, which enjoyed considerable airplay in the summer of 2004. Her second album, Bird on a Wire was released in 2006. Check out "Don't Wake Me" and "Slippin" from "Bird On A Wire" and a fantastic cover of the Mary J. classic "Real Love" from the album "Little Things". (source: Wikipedia)

George Is Jones

Inara George, born in 1974, is a Los Angeles, California, based singer/songwriter. Her 2006 solo album "All Rise" was a KCRW hit. She is also a singer in the band The Bird and the Bee as well as the band Merrick with Bryony Atkinson. She is the daughter of Lowell George, the late founder of the rock and roll group Little Feat. She was five years old when he passed away. (credit: Wikipedia)

Rod Jones is a guitarist in and founding member of the indie band, Idlewild. He is the son of classical musician, John Pryce-Jones. (credit: Wikipedia)

Rod and Inara met when Inara sang backup on Rod's band Idlewild's last record. She then supported them on tour in the US and they quickly became close friends. They decided to write some songs together across the atlantic ocean by emailing ideas back and forth and have just finished recording a full album in a hotel room with Dave Eringa. The track "Ruins" first surfaced in the series finale of the WB series "Everwood". They have some of the most beatiful harmonies you'll ever hear. Unfortunately, they are on what I can only suspect is a permanent hiatus, so I doubt we'll ever get a full length album. One can hope though right? (credit: Myspace)

Second post in one day! WOO HOO! So if you've never heard of Tim and Phil Hanseroth, they tour and record with Brandi Carlile. I honestly didn't know that these recordings even existed, so I'm pretty excited about this one!!! They used to record with The Fighting Machinists, a local band out of Seattle. If you were unaware, they wrote a few of the tracks on Brandi Carlile's most recent album "The Story" and apparently they've recorded a few of those songs without Brandi. Below, you'll find their versions of "Fall Apart Again", "The Story" and "Follow" along with the tracks "Sweet Pea", "Corroded", "Every Road", "Keep On Firing" and "Rawk".

Here's some tidbits about the boys from

Tim plays guitar

Phil plays bass

Tim and Phil are identical twins who are Seattle natives.

Tim and Phil, along with Brandi, co-produced Brandi's self-titled album

Tim and Brandi have matching tattoos

Tim and Phil were born on August 7th, making them Leos (the day before my birthday!!!)

Lynn Miles

Happy St. Patricks Day! Not sure if this blog will ever get read, but I wanted to share some of my favorite tunes with the world, and hopefully maybe they''ll share some of theirs with me.

Lynn Miles is a Canadian singer-songwriter whose first album, Slightly Haunted, was touted as one of the best folk albums of the year when it was released in 1996. Her live album "Live At The Chapel" is available via Itunes, so if you like what you hear go and purchase the album. She's a great storyteller and has an amazing voice. Check out "Unravel" and "I'm The Moon" from the album "Unravel" and "Love Sweet Love" from her most recent album "Love Sweet Love".
